Pinscher Min
is my dog a mini pinscher or a mix?

I just adopted a 1-year mini-pinscher from the shelter–but the more research I do the more I think it is a mix of something because he is 16.5 pounds and min-pins average 10-12 pounds. He is about 25-26 inches long from his head to butt. He is not overweight or anything, in fact he is pretty scrawny with his ribs showing a little. I went to the vet for his initial exam and he said I got a good one, and was perfectly healthy. So I dont really know what he is (nor do I really care he is adorable) but I am just curious that’s all–since min-pins are supposed to be “toy dogs” he’s kind of big for one I guess.

It is impossible to say for sure without seeing him. But many dogs end up different from the breed standard. It is common for a dog to be the wrong coat color, bigger or smaller then the standard….even tho they’re sorted into “breeds” dogs are just like us….they come in all shapes, sizes & colors :)
