We also provide medications to relax intestinal spasms, such as metoclopramide (Reglan, three or four times 0.1-0.25mg/lb daily) and trimethobenzamide (Tigan, 1.5mg/lb three times daily). Also, dogs are on antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infection through the damaged small intestine (cephalothin, Keflin @ 5-15mg/pound given four times a day intramuscularly or intravenously). Earlier dogs disease may have a short period of fever. But temperatures often drop to below normal dogs a few days later. These dogs need other sources of heat.
